AmICredible was created by the team at AmICredible, Inc., an innovative technology startup based in Massachusetts. The company's founder is Dan Nottingham. - ### What does AmICredible cost? AmICredible offers both a free and premium version. Contact us for pricing for your organization. - ### Why can't I just use AI or Google to check for credibility? **The short version:** Google helps you search. AI helps you generate. AmICredible gives you a fast, transparent, and repeatable way to check the credibility of your claims and content.  AmICredible is built for one job: evaluating credibility. Give it a statement and you get a credibility score, a plain-language explanation, and the sources behind it, drawn from credible outlets across the spectrum, all in a few short minutes. We also look at how something is said, and search multiple perspectives to help remove biases.  Generative AI tools give you an answer, often a very confident one. But they don't always show where that answer came from, they don’t trace citations back to the original source and they can hallucinate or get facts wrong while sounding completely certain.  Search engines give you links, and lots of them. Some are credible, some are ads, and some are opinion pieces dressed up as reporting. Sorting through them is still a time consuming job, and it's easy to search in a way that confirms what you already believe. - ### Is AmICredible an AI Tool? Not in the way most people think. Generative AI tools create new content: they write, summarize, and answer questions, often without showing where the information came from. That’s useful for drafting, but it’s also how confident-sounding errors end up in published work. AmICredible doesn’t generate answers. It evaluates them. We use language models ethically, as one part of a structured process that checks claims against real, published sources. Every result comes with a credibility score, a plain-language explanation, and the sources behind it, so you can see exactly how we got there. **The difference:** generative AI produces content. AmICredible checks whether that content holds up. - ### Does AmICredible integrate with Google Docs? Fact checking is only one part of our four-part credibility analysis process, which is as far as most fact-checking sites go.  AmICredible evaluates based on these four factors:  **1. Factual Accuracy** Does the statement align with verified facts, scientific consensus, and available evidence? This is where most tools stop. AmICredible is just getting started. **2. Source Credibility** Who made the statement? Does the source have a track record of reliability, or a documented history of bias and misinformation? Identity and provenance matter as much as the claim itself. **3. Statement Clarity & Precision** Is the statement clearly defined and specific, or is it vague, hyperbolic, and stripped of important meaning? Imprecision distorts meaning even when facts are present. We identify when a statement sacrifices clarity for persuasion. **4. Contextual Support** Does the statement include the context needed to interpret it accurately, or does it oversimplify and misrepresent a more complex reality? A statement can be factually correct and still mislead. We flag the gap. - ### Do you censor or limit what statements I can post or check? No, AmICredible only provides you with information about your statement’s credibility so that you can make an informed decision about whether to share a statement or not. The choice of what to write is always yours. - ### What is a credibility score? A credibility score is a measure of how credible your message is based on available evidence and the context of your message.  Credibility scores are between 0 and 10 based on the four factors mentioned above. The higher the score, the more credible the message. Over time, you will build an average credibility score that is shown in your profile. Your average credibility score can be improved by sharing more credible messages. - ### Does checking external claims impact my credibility score? No, but you must indicate when checking an external statement. When external statements are entered, they are rephrased and validated, and they do not count against your total credibility score. We do track the credibility of external statements separately. - ### Does checking a belief or opinion impact my credibility score? No. When you enter a belief or opinion, the app will give you a credibility score of N/A and that does not count toward your total credibility score. You can also track belief or opinion statements in your history. - ### Does asking a question as a statement impact my credibility score? No. Using the AmICredible platform to ask a question or to research the credibility of a statement does not impact your credibility score. - ### How do I increase my personal credibility score? Credibility scores will gradually increase over time the more you check and share your own credible statements. Sharing statements that are less credible will bring your score down. The best way to increase your credibility score is to use the platform often for checking and posting factual information. - ### How do I increase my document's credibility score? AmICredible DocCheck will highlight all possible statements and claims you've made in your document, and you will see a score for each statement and an overall document score.  In each statement, you will also receive details about why the score was given, and optional suggestions to improve your score. You can implement those suggestions right into your document if you choose. - ### Why does AmICredible rephrase external statements before it verifies them? To protect the copyrights of the original poster, we do not retain this information in the platform. Therefore, to best provide verification of its credibility, we automatically rephrase the external statement before validation. - ### How are my profile information and messages protected? Protecting your data is a top priority for us.
